Manuel Sotomayor de Azambuja
Manuel F. Sotomayor is President of Sotomayor
S.A, one of the main companies in the fishing sector.
In
addition he is member of institutions like: “The
G-50”, a renowned group of Latin American businessmen sponsored
by the Inter-American Dialogue and the Carnegie Foundation; PREAL
(Programa de Promoción de la Reforma Educativa en América Latina
y el Caribe); The Peruvian Chapter of CEAL
(Latin America Entrepreneurial Council) since 1992. He also was
special representative of the President of Peru in the ABAC
(APEC Business Advisory Council) from 1999 to 2001.
From
1998 to 1999, he was President of CONFIEP
(Confederación Nacional de Instituciones Empresariales Privadas),
the national confederation that groups Peruvian business associations.
He was also its Second Vice-President for 6 years.
He was President of SNP
(Sociedad Nacional de Pesquería del Peru) from 1989 to 1990.
He is founder and has been President from 1994 to 1997 of a non-profit
organization named Peru 2021. He has also been President of FEO
(Fishmeal Exporters Organization) in 1989. In the same way,
he has been President of the Board of Productos Pesqueros
S.A. from 1983 to 2000 and Vice President of SNE (Sociedad Nacional
de Exportadores del Perú) in 1990, 1994-1995.
As speaker and panelist, he has
represented CONFIEP and Peru 2021 in numerous Conferences and National
and International Forums of Social Responsibility, Entrepreneurial
Vision, Environment and Globalization.
In 1992 he was elected “Business
man of the Year” by the international magazine “America Economía".
Mr. Sotomayor has graduated in
Economics from the Universidad del Pacífico in 1976. Additionally,
he obtained in 1977 a Master Degree in Economics from the University
of Notre Dame, Indiana, U.S.A.
