Carlos
Sotomayor.
Founder and presently Chairman of the Board of Sotomayor S.A. He
started in the fish business in 1946. He has worked for well-known
and world wide prestigious firms, like Wilbur-Ellis Co. whom started
in Peru in 1944 and pioneered the sale of Peruvian tuna, sworfish
and shrimps. Actually Wilbur-Ellis was Carlos's University. Then
he worked as Commercial Manager of Star Kist Peruana, and subsequently
as General Manager of Cia. Pesquera Coishco. Both subsidiaries of
Start Kist Foods Inc. of California, commonly known in the USA as
"Charlie the Tuna".
In 1960, together with Luis Banchero Rossi,
who was in those days the largest world producer of fishmeal and
fishoil, broadened Peruvian sales not only in the western hemisphere
but also to Europe Eastern countries like the Democratic Republic
of Germany, Poland, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Checoslovaquia, Rumania
and Bulgaria. Also to the Far East.
In 1970 when the military government took over
the sale of Peru's production, at the request of the peruvian private
industry, he was appointed by the government as Commercialization
Manager for EPCHAP, entity formed to handle the sale of Peru's production
which on those days was over two million metric tons of fishmeal
and five hundred thousand metric tons of fishoil. Previous to this
appointment Carlos was the Executive Director of the Consorcio Pesquero
del Peru that handled the sale of 92.5% of the peruvian production.
Carlos also opened world markets for canned
and frozen fish in South and Central America, Europe, the Far East
and South Africa.
Thanks to his world wide expertise on
sales of fish products and acute business vision he has consolidated
Sotomayor enterprise as an intensely focused company promoting a
culture of quality and excellence with social responsability.
