Since 1977 the Sotomayor Group of companies,
consistently expanded its commercial activities, becoming in the 80s
the largest broker of Canned Sardines (pilchards), handling more than
50% of its exports.
As of 1985, Sotomayor reoriented its activities towards fishmeal and
fishoil, following the changes experienced by the industry.
In the 90s Sotomayor consolidates its position
in fishoil by forming an Alliance with Holtermann and Pacific Oil, comercializing
about 70% of Peruvian fishoil exports. The Alliance with Holterman ended
on December 2001, maintaining the Alliance with Pacific Oil.
At the same time, the Group ventured in the production of fishmeal and
fishoil in 1978. As of 1983, it began an espectacular growth and in
1994 reached a production of 124,000 metric tons of fishmeal.
Starting in 1995 to the year 2000, the Group started a strategic withdrawal
as producer in order to concentrate on the commercial side.
